Look at this cutie that I just got...  Do you think you could help me name him?

The Eagles weren’t the first country rock band but they have proven themselves to be the best. Fantastic singing, playing, and song writing. The addition of Joe Walsh was also stroke of genius or they may have wound up in the same league as Poco or Firefall.

The 1974 Paramount concert was one I will always regret missing but that’s the way it goes. Did you go? Please tell.

The first time I visited LA was in 1979. Flying in, the city was covered in smog even then. Elektra records flew me down to do an interview with Don & Glenn at Don’s most impressive, high above LA, sprawling custom Spanish mansion with lots of land. Football field sized land. That’s what Hotel California money can buy. He told me the estate was once owned by David Gates of Bread.

They were rightfully concerned that “The Long Run” would not be as well received as Hotel, and time has proven they were right, but it’s still a great album. They were especially proud of “Heartache Tonight” the song written with Bob Seger. It’s Glenn’s tip of the musical hat to his great love of the Motown Sound.

The Eagles Kingdome show in 1977 was not the best, mostly because of the venue, but all their others shows here have been great…

I think…I’m guessing that 1974 Paramount show, the one my boss would not give me the night off for was pretty great too.

KJR Turntable Tuesday!

One of my first concerns about switching from vinyl  to compact discs in the 80's was the loss of album cover art AND all the information on them. Oh, and by the way, WHY were they called albums?

They weren't ALBUMS, but they WERE called that. Because prior to the 33 and a third "album" the old 78 rpm records did come in an ALBUM with 4 or pages of 78's in the sleeves. The name just carried over. But I digress.

I miss the analog age. I miss the needle in the old groove, yes, there is something romantic about that.

AND THAT IS WHY, in keeping with the times,  but ALSO remembering our glorious vinyl past you might hear some good old fashioned "wax" on KJR.

Especially on Turntable Tuesday's.

Plus, it gives my wife a GREAT REASON why there are records all over the house.
